Beagles of Palatine Meetup Group:
This is a group for people with beagles in the Chicago area, particularly in the NW suburbs. We have two people organizing our events - Joyce typically does them in the North-NW suburbs (Palatine, Barrington, Buffalo Grove area, etc.), with the fourth Sunday afternoon being the normal time (which varies with her schedule), and Carrie typically doing things in the more western parts (Dundee, Carol Stream, Elgin area, etc.). Occasionally we meet in conjunction with dog-related events too.
We are very informal. We just like to hang out and enjoy all the beagles. There is no charge to join or to attend events, although sometimes there is a fee for use of the facility we select, for which we take voluntary donations OR it's a pay-as-you-enter situation. All the information will come out via e-mail to which you RSVP.
Participants often bring dog treats and sometimes they bring human snacks if the location is conducive to that. Kids are welcome to attend the meetups as long as they are comfortable being around lots of dogs. Non-beagle dog siblings can come (we call them "honorary beagles" or "wannabeagles") IF they are friendly, generally well-behaved (dog, kid and people friendly) and small-to-medium in size.
Of course, for everyone's enjoyment and sanity, we are assuming that your dog is up to date on appropriate vaccinations and is not carrying an easily transmissible bug of any kind that you know of at the meetup, and is kid, people and dog friendly in general. And preferably spayed or neutered, but if not please be alert.
So, fill out the information and request to join if you haven't yet!
PLEASE consider adopting from a shelter or rescue group if you are looking to add a beagle to your family. You CAN find puppies and very young beagles there if that's what you're looking for (although I prefer the many benefits of a mature house pet!). And it is simply not true that a shelter or rescue dog must have problems for it to be in that situation. Most dog "issues" are really those of the humans in the equation, and most dogs end up homeless through no fault of their own.

An excellent beagle rescue group in our area is BREW (Beagle Education, Rescue and Welfare)

This is the rescue that our beagles came from. They operate on a shoestring and are in need of foster home and donations.
