Pedal on Parliament

Details

Pedal on Parliament is going to be even bigger this year! If you missed it last year, join us and thousands of other cyclists for a mass ride from the Meadows to the Scottish Parliament. This is essentially a peaceful protest, designed to raise awareness and investment in cycling for the safety of all road users.

***Change of plans...

To avoid the mega busy trains (and to get more cycling in!) we have decided to cycle to Edinburgh leaving super early on Sunday morning. Pat has worked out a good route. Info from Pat below.....

You are invited to: Pedal on Parliament – the feeder ride from Glasgow. About 50 quite hilly miles on road from Glasgow to Edinburgh, starting at the main gates of Alexandra Park in Dennistoun at 7am, joining the Pedal on Parliament ride at the Edinburgh Meadows.

This ride is quite taxing for beginner riders. Route suitable for any bike. It is not a charity ride, nor an organized ride, you are responsible for your own safety at all times, although nobody will be left behind. The plan is to return by train, but places on trains for bikes might be limited, so feel free to make alternative arrangements for your return. It would be your responsibility to get home after the event. No doubt there will be some riding back to Glasgow all or part of the way, you might want to join them.

Please bring along inner tubes suitable for your bike, basic repair tools, lunch, snacks and water.

Please drop me an email patricia.ponzi@ntlworld.com so I know how many to wait for at Alexandra Park. More details about the Pedal on Parliament event, plus details of other feeder rides, can be found at www.pedalonparliament.org (http://www.pedalonparliament.org/) Any questions, please ask, I have done the route before. Hope to have the pleasure of your company for a fun ride – note the PoP organizers promised us a picnic in the Capital!

If you think you can go a wee bit faster than us, there is the option to meet another group who are planning to set off at 9am at Alexandra Park. They aim to reach Edinburgh at about 2pm. They estimate an average speed of 15mph. If you are keen, register your interest here http://www.cyclechat.net/threads/pedal-on-parliament-2-the-feeder-ride-sunday-19th-may.127940/ so that the leader, Rasmus, knows how many to expect at the starting point.

If you want to make your own way to Edinburgh by train or car, you can meet us at the Meadows. Please send me a message with your phone number so we can track you down when we get there.
