The way to get started is to quit talking and begin doing. -- Walt Disney
Hello and welcome to Bellingham’s Fun & Fitness Friends!
This meetup is about getting fit and having fun in a friendly group atmosphere while taking advantage of where we live. Whether you participate in triathlons or are just starting your first fitness program, this group is designed to give you opportunities to shake up your routine, meet new people, add accountability to your established or new regime and have fun in our little corner of the Pacific Northwest.
The idea is that by putting together a group of fun, lively, committed folks, we can help hold each other accountable for achieving our fitness goals by breaking out of an established routine BEFORE it gets old, our bodies quit responding and our brain shuts off - before the loss of motivation occurs.
Challenge a new hike by ascending it in a new manner, discover a new trail or park, be guided by others, share your thoughts, make use of spare time and a great day, chat, be safe, help others and have fun. To do so, we want to encourage everyone to come out, be active and enjoy more quality fitness time with others.
As we grow, please feel free to leave comments on the message board, post photos and check out our calendar of current & future events. See what fits and what works for you. Feel free to comment, express an opinion and suggest a meetup.
We do many activities, and are adding more all the time. What we do now includes walk-n-chats (your well-behaved dog is welcome), Lake Padden trail hikes, ½ marathon training schedules, Mt Baker hikes (once the snow recedes), fitness hikes (Fragrance/Raptor & Ridgeline trails), moderate bike rides (15 m +), organized paddling events, beach or mountain day trips, snowshoeing, etc. If you have any other ideas that you participate in regularly and want to encourage others, please let me know and I’ll post them.
Annual Dues are $15, which covers the cost of the annual fee for this site. $15 for a personal guided tour up every trail in Whatcom County for the year. You're guaranteed 30 hikes in 2013. Far cheaper than most gym or yoga memberships, new people to chat with regularly and best of all - YOU GET TO BE OUTSIDE! Safely - in a group - guided and with all the dogs running amok, usually pretty entertained too.
We welcome you to network for fitness, fun and friendship in an un-intimidating manner – but since the name of the game is accountability, once you try it out a few times, we ask that you commit yourself to achieving a stated goal (and please let us know when you achieve it!).
Thanks for joining…this should be a fun ride!
NOTE: Personal Trainers or Fitness Group leaders: if you want to host an event, simply email Jean with the What, Where, When and how much. Your event will be posted and you will be co-organizer of that event. This is a new option just created by Meetup.com and it works great. Also, please email me if you're interested in becoming an co-organizer – besides meeting other fabulous, motivated souls, the rewards include being able to setup events and share ones knowledge of local trails and hikes.
PLEASE BE PATIENT AS OUR SCHEDULE SOLIDIFIES. CHECK BACK OFTEN AS WE ARE STILL FINALIZING DATES AND DON'T WANT TO PREMATURELY POST EVENT DETAILS. SUBSTITUTIONS AND CHANGES MAY OCCUR. SOME EVENTS ARE SCHEDULED THROUGH OTHER VENUES, PLEASE ALWAYS CALL TO CHECK AN EVENT TO BE SURE IT IS STILL ON IF SOMEONE OTHER THAN A MEMBER IS HOSTING AN EVENT. THANKS FOR READING MY DISCLAIMERS!
