Goal: Maintain hiking, biking, and horse trails.

Occasion: The event previously known as Biketoberfest.

Description: Your chance to give back...  We hike, bike, and ride horses on these trails that seemingly are just there.

Specifics: We're setting out to work on the more difficult trails.  The trails we are going to maintain are just outside of Bend, but at around 6500 ft.  Come prepared to move dirt with heavy duty hoes and rakes at a higher altitude closer to the Cascade crest.

Organization: You will be organized through COTA's event previously known as Biketoberfest.  COTA will provide the tools.  COTA will also provide the after party.  Once you've signed in we'll carpool to the work site.  Once there, we will proceed under Todd's leadership to perform trail work.  Todd has the experience and know-how to build, clear, and maintain trails.

Meetup Location:  We will meet 8:30 am at the *west end* of the Old Mt Bachelor Parking lot.  If we're not obvious, please look for an older tan Chevy S10 pickup truck and silver Ford Fiesta.  If you don't see us right away, go ahead and sign up, get some light breakfast, and meet us at the west end for car pooling.  We'll be driving up road 370 from Todd Lake in late fall conditions, which can include mud, snow, and sometimes limited ice.  Vehicles with clearance and traction are preferred.

What To Bring: Wear boots, long pants, long sleeves, and have eye protection handy.  Bring work gloves and be prepared for chilly weather, rain, slush, or snow.  Gaiters are useful for keeping dirt out of your boots.  COTA will provide the tools.

This will be our third year supporting The Event Formerly known as Biketoberfest through  Last year's work on Todd's team was great fun - the Metolius-Windigo trail had light snow making for excellent working conditions:

I'm always proud to volunteer thru BACE to support COTA in this great event. I failed to notice earlier that our work party sign up was for a specific trail section on Met-Win. Because I'm very excited about the new section of Tyler's Traverse that's being cut in during the event, I'm going to work in that area. I'll be spreading the word about BACE to anyone I can trap in conversation and look forward to catching up with everyone back at the party!

I'll be on Tyler's as well. Getting attached to the trail we've been working on the most this year.

Is the 'old' Mt Bachelor parking lot the very west side of the main lot at the main lodge area?

Good catch, thanks. The old park & ride is just south of the current park & ride in Bend. I just corrected meetup's location information for the venue. So the green arrow in the link now even indicates the correct part of the parking lot.

10/13 update: road conditions to Todd Lake and forecast for the week are good. 370 gate is open but driving quickly gets technical; we'll likely go in from Water Tower but bring your Northwest Forest Passes in case we need to park at Todd Lake.

Gaiters will be useful for snow as well as dirt; the Water Tower area currently has a few inches, though it'll consolidate and melt out some over the week.

If you've noticed there's a foot of snow at 7,000 feet, that Century is closed, and are wondering if that affects plans the answer is nope. Forecast changes over to sunny and warm tomorrow and stays that way for as far it goes. So this storm cycle's accumulation will melt out.
