Bike dirt roads along the remote and wild lava escarpments and plateaus, lake basins, and high sage desert of eastern Oregon via gravel or mountain bike. This bike packing tour will cover 200 miles in 5-6 days starting in Paisley, Oregon and ending at French Glen or South Steens Campground via the Oregon Desert Trail. We will bike 35 - 50 miles per day and there is water available each day along the trail.
Please read the detailed route description and view the maps at links further down to get a good feel for the route and conditions. It's a beautiful area; the route is moderate in difficulty with climbs, descents, and flats; the area is remote but civilization, or at least small communities are within a days ride should the need arise.
Our pace will be moderate so we can enjoy scenery and 'be where we are'. However, due to the remote area it's not a beginning level trip. Prior multi-day back country travel and bike camping/touring experience required. In addition, group and individual safety will come first and no one will be left behind.
Required to arrive in Paisley 0n June 23 (afternoon before the trip) and we'll camp the last night June 28 and have June 29 as a flex morning for retrieving shuttle vehicles or if we need more time to finish due to weather, mechanical issues, etc.
Please send me a message if you are interested. Once I have a confirmed set of participants we'll meet over Zoom to plan logistics and go into further detail.
