Hi Robert,

I've always appreciated your open, welcoming personality and good heart.

I appreciate all the effort you put into the Bend Photographers Meetup Group over the last couple years since I joined the Group.  The Photo shoot/Critiques were interesting and challenging; I was always learning something new.

Thank You, Robert,  for all your hard work to make and keep the Bend Photographers Meetup Group alive and vibrant; I Also thank you for your willingness to train and assist your successor.

Best Regards,
Stuart J. Rosenboom

Dear Bend Photographers Group,

I took over the group in February of 2011.  I've run as many as 3 meetups in one month on occasions, but now life is so busy I can't seem to put even one event together.  I have thought about stepping down as the Organizer more than once over the last two years, but was talked out of it each time.  Having several new and wonderful assistants made it possible to continue, but this is a Meetup group – we need events to stay alive!  I have been asked many times why I don’t schedule more meetups.  For the record, as Organizer, I averaged almost two Meetups per month for four years.

Since joining the group about 5 years ago, I have run or helped run over 100 of the 161 events since the group’s inception in November 2008.  I have attended 91 events, all of them fun, interesting and filled with good people.  I co-organized the first photo exhibition we put on.  I ran the next two, also.  I’ve come up with ideas for shoots and critiques, taught and shared what I know about the technical aspects of photography, and shared the little bit of artistic talent that lurks beneath the surface.  I tried to offer Meetups based on requests and ideas from members.

The group needs someone with enthusiasm for people and photography; a welcoming and inclusive spirit doesn’t hurt; the ability to organize, field requests, handle emails, pay the bill for the Meetup website every six months; welcome people when they join; schedule Meetups; receive photos for critiques (if that continues); find a place to host the group; ask for donations for the dues; bring the plates, cups, bottle opener, food; set up before the event; take down and clean up after an event; solve people problems; and run the show.

I’d be happy to meet with anyone who is interested in taking the helm from me.  I won’t just hand it over blindly and I’m not stepping down until the right person steps forward.  I want what is best for the group.  The time one devotes to this can be more behind the scenes, than the time spent at a Meetup.

Until we have a new leader, if anyone wants to organize and run an event, just let me know, and I’ll help you make it happen.

It’s been a privilege, an honor and a joy to have met so many wonderful people while being the Organizer of this group.

Thank you all,

Robert Curzon
