Needs a date
Hi:
My name is Christian Baudry. I am not deaf but several of my friends are deaf and I have been frustrated to have difficulty communicating with them.
I know physicians, nurses, lawyers, etc. who have occasionally clients who are deaf. Some of them are interested in learning ASL but are not motivated enough to attend a class with a teacher.
As a software developer, I have been thinking about how to use the Internet to learn ASL. Using the Internet to learn ASL signs and grammar, and to practice exercises anytime during the day, but also to be in contact with ASL teachers who stimulate the learning experience, keep the motivation high, provide feedback, and monitor progress.
With the help of a software developer and an ASL teacher, and with the support of an association, I have been able to build a prototype that does that.
The purpose of the group is to bring together deaf persons, ASL teachers, ASL signers and people interested in learning ASL, to get their feedback and suggestions.
Discussing the different ways for non deaf persons to learn the sign language will also help determine whether it is worthwhile to go further with this prototype.
More non deaf persons need to learn ASL, and finding new ways to learn ASL makes sense in my opinion.
If you share this belief I would be very happy that you join the group and attend meetings.
Chris.
