First Meeting - introduce ourselves and take a look at some cool projects..

A reminder that the first Berkeley Hardware Startup Meetup is coming up - Thursday June 21 at Swerve [masked]th Street, Berkeley, CA) -we've got great people coming, wonderful electronic music, some great presenters, and a view of Swerve's robotic manufacturing -all mixed with beer and food, what could be better.

Pitches - If you want to share your idea or project in front of a great, relaxed crowd consider making a three minute quick pitch.  It's a great way to meet people and share ideas - it's hardware so no Powerpoint, just bring the thing.

If you want to pitch just put info on this page.

Sponsors - Swerve is hosting the event -but we're still looking for more sponsors to help fund beer and food - if you've got any suggestions please let me know.  We'll promote them on this site and at the event.

Let me know if you have any questions or suggestions.

Very positive. Some very cool projects. Got to talk to a couple people who could be very helpful with my own hardware related projects. Definitely will make this a regular event on my calendar!

Thank you Lauren, Swerve and Stupid Fun Club, it was a lovely evening with so many interesting projects and people! Ryan, the robot graveyard idea sounds great. I'd like to see that happen.

Wonderful to meet all of you and thanks to our hosts!! Really looking forward to collaborations. Wondering if there is appetite to create a BERKELEY ROBOT GRAVEYARD - I've got boxes stuff gathering dust that might be useful to others in community, and suspect there may be a few more boxes out there.

Perhaps could model it on lending library (google docs) or a 'give one get one' . Old motors, Power adapters, batteries, electronics, wheels, tubing etc.

    Thoughts? Best,
    Ryan

Great meetup! AAA fun! Thx again for organizing this, Lauren!

After making online games for 9 yrs at EA, I have gone "rogue" and am working on a smart toy project. I would love to meet other individuals who also love toys and games.

Just an FYI, but Mark Garrison of Saleae has offered to give a talk about his hardware startup and their product (logic analyzers) at the Ace Monster Toys meetup on the 11th. He's a nice guy, their products are handy, and hopefully has some useful insights into starting a business with your hardware / widget invention!

If anyone would like to propose a different day for the meeting at AMT, please select here which days work best for you: http://whenisgood.net/ncr8r4z -- thanks!

Oops, just noticed this is now on Thurs/21 Works for me.

Thanks to David for offering AMT...
But, Monday evenings are usually not good for me (Circuit Hacking @ Noisebridge)
A Tues or Wed eve would work better.

For anyone still interested in meeting up on the 11th at Ace Monster Toys, I've created a meetup here that people can RSVP to, to gauge interest: http://www.meetup.com/Ace-Monst... -- anyone and everyone is invited, just let me know!

    Hi all,
I'll be out of town on the 21st, and Lauren said we can still get together at AMT if we arrange it... Lauren, I'm happy to arrange this if I can get info on who to contact :-)

Probably should be a Thursday so that we don't clash with the AMT meeting.

I'm out of town the week of June 7th, anytime the following week (except June 14th) is better for me.

AMT has their 'general meeting' on thursday nights...this is either a good thing or a bad thing depending on what you guys want to do exactly with this group. Good in that there will be lots more people, many interested in the same sorts of things as you, bad in that it might be more crowded. You're still welcome to come though!

I second the 7th of June.

    Thanks Ace Monster!

Any proposed dates yet? If not, how about Thurs. June 7th?

+1 for Ace Monster. Really nice group of people.

Excellent! I've been wanting to drop my AMT for some time now and have never had the necessary impetus. Now we just need a date.

    Hello all,

I'm a member of Ace Monster Toys, a hackerspace in Oakland, but it's just on the border with Berkeley, not far from Ashby Bart. We'd be glad to let you host a meetup in our space, if you're interested, let me know in advance to make sure someone will be there to open the door & there are no schedule conflicts. Thanks!

    May 29, 2012

  • David R changed the location to Ace Monster Toys

I think this is a grand idea!
