In Book IV of his Metaphysics, Aristotle wrote down what has come to be known as the law of non-contradiction. This is the principle that two contradictory statements, P and not-P, cannot both be true. Aristotle called it "the most certain of all principles".
Few philosophers since Aristotle have questioned the law of non-contradiction or even bothered to justify it. Read more
