I have just received confirmation of our guest speaker for the April meeting. His name is Luke Haywood, and he is a Research Associate in the department of Public Economics in the German Institute for Economic Research (DIW Berlin). His key fields of research are Labour Economics, Public Economics, Applied Microeconometrics, including papers on Basic Income.
A wide range of public figures from the social sciences, politics and business have proposed paying every citizen a fixed amount of income without means testing or work requirement. The idea is fascinating. Most recently, a widely reported crowd-funding initiative from Berlin collected EUR12,000 to finance one year's worth of unconditional basic income for a randomly selected individual.
He will follow up with a open Q&A in which he will try to add his perspective on the potential of Basic Income and some of our projects, including Circles.
