"Basic Income: an Economic Perspective" talk and Q&A with Luke Haywood

Details
Liebe Freunde
I have just received confirmation of our guest speaker for the April meeting. His name is Luke Haywood, and he is a Research Associate in the department of Public Economics in the German Institute for Economic Research (DIW Berlin). His key fields of research are Labour Economics, Public Economics, Applied Microeconometrics, including papers on Basic Income.
Luke Haywood: DIW public profile (https://www.diw.de/en/diw_01.c.479869.en/press/diw_roundup/unconditional_basic_income_an_economic_perspective.html?id=diw_01.c.378179.de&sprache=en)
He will talk on the subject of "Basic Income: An Economics Perspective" which is loosely based on his paper of the same name:
Unconditional Basic Income: An Economic Perspective - Luke Haywood 2014 (https://www.diw.de/sixcms/detail.php?id=diw_01.c.479938.de)
A wide range of public figures from the social sciences, politics and business have proposed paying every citizen a fixed amount of income without means testing or work requirement. The idea is fascinating. Most recently, a widely reported crowd-funding initiative from Berlin collected EUR12,000 to finance one year's worth of unconditional basic income for a randomly selected individual.
He will follow up with a open Q&A in which he will try to add his perspective on the potential of Basic Income and some of our projects, including Circles.
---
This is a really good opportunity to see what traditional economic theory can say to our plans for a peer-to-peer Basic Income; Luke may not agree with a lot of what we are planning, but while his will only be one view that we can take or leave, it is important to be able to answer these hard questions that will arise as the project develops.
The time and place are the same.
Date: Tuesday, April 19th
Time: 7pm start, with Luke to talk from ~7.30pm
Place: Werkstatt Berlin
I hope to see you all there for an interesting discussion! Any questions or suggestions please comment or mail the group.
If you missed it there is a quick write up of the previous meeting here (https://www.meetup.com/Berlin-Basic-Income-Bedingungsloses-Grundeinkommen/messages/boards/thread/49716589).
Bis Bald!
