What we’re about

Willkommen! Welcome!
We organise hikes around Berlin, in Brandenburg and elsewhere. We enjoy the time outdoors with like-minded people and like to discover nice routes and places.
We welcome anyone who wants to create and share memorable moments with us.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
meetup.com removed formely so-called "Pages" and we therefore had to add the details from the "Welcome to the group" content below. Due to some circumstances in the past it became necessary to point certain things out.
We hope it helps to understand how the group works and if you have any question, additions or you want to become an Organiser don't hesitate to get in touch.

How Berlin Hikers works
Please be aware that all event organisers invest a huge amount of their spare time in finding nice routes, collating information, planning the event and finally leading the hike and making sure that everyone gets home safely. Berlin Hikers is 100% volunteer run by private people.
The least you can give back is to treat the organisers as you would like to be treaten (this esp. relates to an attendance, e.g. "No shows").
No commercial institution stands behind Berlin Hikers, no one gets paid for the effort. The organiser pays the subscription from its own pocket!

Release of Liability:
Each person who signs up for a hike is responsible for their own safety and the safety of their own guests. By signing up for an event, the member acknowledges that they are aware and have made their guests aware of the risks, dangers and hazards associated with any outdoor activity and freely accept and fully assume all such risks, dangers and hazards, and further agree to release and discharge the organiser of the event from and against any and all liability arising from their and their guest's participation in the group activities.
If a person (a member or their guests) has health impairments which may influence their attendance they're obliged to inform the organiser upfront about them and how to react if required.

Important things to note:
1. All organisers of Berlin Hikers are private volunteers. The costs associated with running Berlin Hikers are covered by the head organiser. No commercial institution stands behind Berlin Hikers.
2. If you can't make it, please sign out 24 hours before an event. Repeated no-shows may result in being expelled from the group.
3. If you are on the waiting list and attend an event, you will be expelled from the group.
4. Alert the event organiser if you notice a dangerous or unpleasant situation, or someone in distress. Complaints about other members or an organiser may be escalated to the head organisers of Berlin Hikers.
5. Please bring appropriate clothes, food, water etc to the event. Event organiser may add their own requirements.
6. Please do not share pictures in the meetup group without permission first.

Organising events:
1. Anyone is welcome to become an event organiser. Contact the head organiser to request access.
2. Event organisers are free to set their own attendee limits, pace etc.
3. Event organisers are not allowed to run their event for a profit, but are allowed to charge a fee to cover extra costs incurred.
4. Events in Berlin Hikers are intended as hiking events only. Please check meetup.com/Berlin-Cycling for cycling events.
5. Event organisers should avoid situations where attendees can not stop doing what they're doing without getting hurt. That includes long distance swimming, ice skating on natural lakes or hiking in great heights. In addition to that reminding the attendees before an event starts to mention if they have health impairments and/or may need a special treatment under certain circumstances would help to make sure everyone makes it home safely.
6. Event organisers should record no-shows by marking those attendees on the "Going"-list as "No show".
