Science Hack Lab

The monthly Science Hack Lab takes place on the 2nd Saturday of each month. Bring your pet projects, favourite electronics, junk lab equipment, microbial friends, specialist knowledge and imagination. Let’s Hack!

Who is this Hack Lab for?
This is for all of you out there who want to actually get down to it and do/make/build stuff in an awesomely collaborative and multidisciplinary way, whether or not you have a concrete project in mind. Everyone brings their own skills to the table - be it in coding, designing, tinkering, electronics, thinking up hackable situations/problems, microscopy, knitting, origami, particle physics, building models out of pipe-cleaners/string/glue/paper, free-diving, environmental monitoring, gardening, click chemistry, cell biology, data visualisation, engineering… it’s a pretty long list. It doesn’t matter if you’ve never done this before - just come along and get stuck in.

What will happen?
We will open the doors at 11 am. Once enough people have arrived (probably around 12) we’ll do a round of introductions – tell us what you have in your mind, explain what your project is, ask for input/help, or offer your skills – to get inspired and get an overview of what people are working on. Then we’re gonna hack until the end of the day. We'll do a wrap-up at 6pm with short presentations of the hack of the day - but we’ll also see if we can arrange open end.

What should I bring?
Bring your favourite tools and basic materials you think you might need for prototyping. We have a box of left-over bits and pieces from the last Science Hack Day that you can rummage around in (details to follow in the comments section). We won’t be organising any official catering, so bring snacks and drinks. TIP: make friends by bringing something to share, especially cake ;)
