Details

Talk & Play is a free event, taking place every two months, that provides the opportunity to game enthusiasts, players and makers to meet and exchange knowledge in a friendly, relaxed and safe environment. Everybody's welcome, regardless of their background and knowledge level: if you like games, we'll make sure you have a good time! Important: this is NOT an event only aimed at developers – keep in mind that I'm not one myself :P

HOW IT WORKS

The event is structured in two parts:

— TALK: A couple of short game-related presentations, followed by a Q&A session, with a special live music break courtesy of Alfred Ladylike (https://soundcloud.com/alfred-ladylike) & her ukulele

— PLAY: All participants are welcome to bring games they've made or are still working on so that the audience can play them – a perfect opportunity to discover and play new games, collect feedback and, who knows?, maybe find collaborators for future projects

“How to fit a games party inside a backpack” by Louie Roots

This short talk discusses mixing travel and events, especially the problems of different controllers and creating whole game experiences with limited resources.
—Louie Roots is a game designer from Perth, Western Australia. He runs Backyard.sk, creates unique controllers, hosts events, travels and distributes indie games. backyard.sk (http://backyard.sk/)

“Why game makers should be tinkerers at heart” by Alexander Pieper & Mareike Ottrand (Studio Fizbin)

With their talk, Alexander and Mareike want to lure your inner child out of the cave to tinker around whenever you are in need of some creative inspiration, for example by experimenting with different painting styles or by building prototypes out of baufix, paper and duct tape. But beware, live tinkering includes the possibility of not-so-serious injuries through lower voltage shocks.
—Alexander Pieper and Mareike Ottrand are (together with Sebastian Mittag) the co-founders of Studio Fizbin, which is mostly known for the award-winning game The Inner World – but they’ve done some other cool stuff too! studio-fizbin.de (http://www.studio-fizbin.de/)

THE GAMES

Have you made a game? Would you like to show it so our audience can play it during the second part of the event? Just bring it! We can provide tables, chairs, power strips and internet connection – that means that all the rest (devices, chargers, controllers...) are up to you.
