I know there are some nice, liberal 20s-30s brainiacs out there in Bethesda...and I think it's past time for everyone to meet up! If you are an open-minded "young professional" dork, geek, science nerd, etc (you get my drift) but you also love being social and having a glass or two of wine, come on out and enjoy a happy hour with like-minded folks.

People often message me about the age range -- we're a fairly young group! If you're looking for something a bit different but still Nerdy, check out Bethesda Nerds with Wine: 40s and Beyond. The group is still getting their wings, and they need an influx of amazing people.

No Show Policy

Please be courteous to your fellow Nerds. Registration for most of the events is limited as we have limited space at each venue. So please, don't sign up unless you are serious about attending. If a particular meet-up is full, you can add your name to the waiting list and take a spot when others cancel.

We understand that things happen and sometimes your schedule might change. Please try to anticipate those schedule conflicts as far in advance as possible and take a minute to change your RSVP status. This is not just "polite," it makes a practical difference:

  • With advance notice, another member can take your spot. Remember, a cancellation even a day before the meet-up generally means that another person was deprived a spot.
  • We love having a nice big group of 15-20, but finding a space to host a large group is a lot more challenging than finding a space for 5, especially on weekend days when cafes are crowded. When there are a lot of late cancellations and no-shows, the organizer has wasted their time (and even rental fees for some venues).
  • Our venues often make special arrangements to accommodate a large group. When the group is significantly smaller, time and manpower has gone to waste.

To facilitate planning and ensure enough spaces for people who want to attend, there is a 3-strikes no-show/late cancellation policy. While this may sound rather strict, the intention is to be fair to the organizer, the venues where we have reserved space, and all the members. Here is the process and policy, starting August 13, 2012:

The organizer prints an attendance list 24 hours before the meet-up, takes attendance at the gathering, and then marks attendance on the meet-up site. No-show means that someone signed up, but did not attend. If someone changes an RSVP less than 24 hours in advance of the meet-up time, this is considered a late cancellation and it is treated and recorded on the meet-up site the same as a no-show.

If you no-show or late cancel 3 times within any 6 month period, you will be removed from the group. It is up to you to keep track of your No-Shows on the Meetup site. On the third strike - you will be notified of your removal from the group and the policy.
