Hi North Bethesda runners!
I want to re-vamp the way this meet-up is structured so that it will be more conducive to everyone getting out and hitting the trails with each other. I am not sure what the best method for making the group more robust, and therefore I am very open to any ideas of how we could figure out ways to meet-up and schedule runs.
The way that we've done it in the past is I've suggested and scheduled a run (we usually had a weekday evening run [though I stopped scheduling these last spring], and then a weekend run). Unfortunately the problem is that this was more or less generically scheduled and if I was busy during the scheduled [an increasing problem of late] then you all were on your own. I would rather have a more dynamic scheduling systems that fits the needs of everyone then on based on my schedule.
So what I want to propose right now, is that if you are interested in meeting up, then propose a time in the discussions area. I will jump start the discussion threads, starting a thread for figuring out a good time to run on weekday evenings and then another one to figure out a good run time during the weekend.
So that's the current situation, and just FYI, following is some general info...
This running meet-up is primarily for those of us in the Bethesda-to-White Flint area (but for those a little further from this are please feel free to start a thread to develop a running meet-up in your area [e.g. Kensington, Chevy Chase, etc]).
ROUTES: Although we will generally be hitting the trails around Rock Creek or the Crescent Trail, I'm open to new suggestions and routes that you might now about.
PACE: In the past, we've have a mixed group with some experienced and some less experienced runners and some faster and some slower. What has kind of worked was to have explicitly state for each particular run, at what pace the group will be near, with the idea of being flexible if necessary.
SCHEDULING: If you have preferred running times, either put that in the "ideas" area or on a RSVP, so that I'll know if, say, Mondays work better for a lot of people, we can schedule the weekday runs for then instead of Tuesdays.
TRI-SPORTS? I am interested in triathlon training, so if there's interest maybe we'll try and do some bike rides or swims--if this sounds interesting to you, just let us know on the Discussion board!
SOCIALS? Apart from running, we can have other social events, we've had one happy hours in the past and can definitely have more, also we've discussed the possibility BBQs and day trips (like to the shore, for a beach run plus beach time).
Basically, if this sound's fun, you like running with people, then come on out and join us! New faces are always welcome!
Cheers!
Bill
P.s. A note regarding cold-weather running - soon it will be getting colder start of winter, so here's a couple of pointers: 1. Bring a couple layers, they say that when you're running it feels about 20-25 degrees warmer than it is, so if it's in the high 30's, once we're running and we've warmed up, it'll feel like the high 50's - but before we get warmed up, you might bring a layer so you stay comfortable. 2. A simple headband or hat and (not-too-thick) gloves will go a LOOOOONG way to keeping you comfortable (they say 50% of your heat loss is from your head. So, if ya follow these rules - even when it's cold, you'll be surprised how comfortable you can be while running!
