Course Details:
The General Class Amateur License is the intermediate level of the three license classes: Technician, General and Amateur Extra. The General License carries with it extensive privileges in the HF (shortwave) part of the electromagnetic spectrum, and represents a significant increase over those of the Technician Class.
These benefits include:
More frequencies: the General Class licensee has access to all the amateur bands from 160 meters all the way up to microwaves.
More communications options: all of the communications modes, including phone, data, and video are available with enhanced power privileges.
New technical opportunities: The General Class operator can use his knowledge to discover new ways to assemble and operate his station. The effects of the ionosphere and solar conditions will become second nature. Improved technical understanding of how radio works will result in a more knowledgeable and skilled operator.
More fun: The General Class operator will have operating privileges that make ham radio a truly international hobby for him. The ability to have conversations with new acquaintances worldwide will certainly broaden his circle of friends. The chance to chase DX contacts on the other side of the world with limited power is always a thrilling experience.
