Moorpark to Ventura and Back Bicycle Tour

Route: We will start our adventure just west of Simi Valley at the Starbucks in Moorpark (561 New Los Angeles Ave). Starting time is 8:30 A.M. I suggest parking in the nearby residential neighborhood rather than the shopping center parking lot. We will take country roads with one long climb and decent to the cute little town of Fillmore in gorgeous Heritage Valley. After a possible tamale stop, we will continue our trek west on South Mountain Rd. to Santa Paula where we will continue on to our destination, Old Town Ventura. I estimate this route to b about 45 miles.  On Sunday, we will ride back to our starting point by a shorter route (about 30 miles).

Eating and sleeping: We will not be camping (although you can camp at Emma Wood State Park if you want to). We will be staying in a Hotel near Old Town. I will be making reservations for myself at the Vagabond Inn. We should eat well as there are many good restaurants in Old Town.

I rate this trip as intermediate due to distance and a few long hills. If you consider yourself a beginner who is up for a challenge, in very good shape, and has cycled at least 30 miles comfortably in one day, you are welcome to come. If you have any questions email me or call – my cell phone number is [masked]-8592. It is best, however, if you also email me directly at

What to bring: will only need to pack a change of clothes for the evening and whatever you need for the second days ride, a helmet (a helmet probably saved a riders life on one of our trips), a multi-gear bike in good repair, a spare tube etc. If you need help with equipment or you would like to borrow a set of panniers, a trailer, or even a bicycle set up for touring, please email or call me.
