Ride Like a Girl

Bicycle Trails Council of the East Bay has a group ride for women only, the first Saturday of the month. The emphasis of these rides will be fun and to meet other women who love to ride. We have rides geared towards all level of riders with experience leaders.

Our next outing will be at Skeggs Point in El Corte de Madera Creek. Plan on a 2-3 hour ride depending on your pace.

For the High Beginner/Low Intermediate Ride - Plan on a 9 mile ride, 2,000 ft of climbing. Route: Sierra Morena (singletrack dh) - Bear Gulch Road - Blue Blossom (singletrack) - Cross Over Trail (single track climb) - Timberview Trail  - Giant Salamander (single track) - Fir Trail (fire road climb out). Amy Arcus and Jane Moorhead will be leading this group ride. Please be comfortable riding single track - there isn't anything too technical but you must be comfortable controlling your bike on single track.

For the Intermediate+ Ride - Plan on a 14 mile ride, 2,700 ft of climbing at a medium/fast pace. Route: Sierra Morena (singletrack dh) - Bear Gulch Road - Blue Blossom (singletrack) - Cross Over Trail (single track climb)- Timberview Trail - Giant Salamander (single track) - Methuselah Trail - Resolution Trail (technical rocky single track) - El Corte Madera Creek Trail (steep long climb out). Inga Beck will be leading this group ride. An INTERMEDIATE rider is considered to be somewhat experienced and skilled, riding one to three times a week during the biking season over the past two or more years.

It's not too late! If you need a ride, I can probably pick you up if you're not too far into Alameda. I will leave in about 20 minutes.

Can you confirm where you will be parking for me? it looks like the map shows about a mile north of the Skeggs point overlook - Is there lots of room for cars at that point? I have only parked at the overlook or south.

    January 31, 2014

    • Inga B.

Hi Freja, The parking lot is 20 feet or so from the trail head (15006 Skyline Blvd, Redwood City, CA). You can't miss it.

    • Amy

Lot can fill up. At 9:00 there's probably spaces but by 9:30 it gets iffy. See you tomorrow!

I'm driving from El Cerrito/N Berkeley if anyone wants a ride, I have space on my roof for another bike. I'll be riding beginner because I'm gonna be slow (finishing a cleanse).

This will be my first time riding with the group - looking forward to it. I live in the city and would be up for carpooling with anybody else in the city. I can drive and take one other person (and bike) or join up with anybody else with room. Thanks

Anyone driving from San Francisco? Carpool?

    January 28, 2014

    • Jane S.

It looks like my suggested route takes me thru the city and I just posted about picking up someone. Let me know if you need a ride.

ack! we have a kid school fundraiser that day, sadly i will actually not be able to make it.

    • Inga B.

:( I was looking forward to riding with the Money Goddess!!! Raise some dough!

      January 30, 2014

  • Amy

Just a note. The beginner route is not highly technical but there is exposure, some narrow sections, and 2000' of climbing in 9 miles. It is not a true beginner ride but will be a slower-paced ride than the intermediate route.

Regretfully I would not be able to join the first "girl's ride" of the year after all. Hope to meet you all soon so that I can start cranking up my mtb game! :)
