Data infrastructure at Spotify

Hello datums,

I'm proud to announce, that for the September meeting we have a very special guest and talk.

Wouter de Bie is visiting us from Stockholm. He is Team Lead Analytics and Data Infrastructure at Spotify, and he co-organizes the Hadoop User Group at Stockholm.

Wouter will present "Data infrastructure at Spotify", he will have a look at how Spotify's data infrastructure works, why they even have a "data infrastructure" and how it's used. He'll look at different components, like Hadoop and Kafka and explain how they got to where they are today, what went well and where they failed.

Of course you know about Spotify, you should also know Spotify is building Europe's largest Hadoop cluster. In this meeting you'll have an outstanding opportunity to listen to and meet Wouter, ask anything you want and get to know a real-life Big Data solution and use case.

Besides, there will be time for beers and networking, as usual.

Finally, just a few words to mention that we have a great meeting space available thanks to the cool co.up guys (find detailed location instructions above), and that there will be some sponsored drinks by Datasalt.

Hoping to see you all there,

    Hi all,

Last week I've visited 3 meetups in Europe and what I noticed is that a lot of knowledge about (big) data is spread out in Europe. In the US most of the things happen in silicon valley and a lot of companies are in the same street, so people there share a lot of ideas, knowledge and use cases. In Europe that's different so I've started a public google group where I would like people in Europe to discuss Big Data related topics.
The group can be found at!forum/big-data-europe
    Join if you're interested!

    Take care,

For those who never went to the Co-Up yet, keep in mind that you have to go through a big car parking-like gate; the place is hidden behind it (see indications at the top of this page). If you look in Google Maps Street View you'll see what I mean. The south gate is actually numbers 5-6 and the north gate 7-8, either can be used to reach the place; although the north gate may be closed later so you probably can exit only through the south one.

    Dear Mei,
unfurtunately we do not have infrastructure for this yet.
This is something we have on the agenda for 2014.
    Best Regards
    Stefan E.

Hi, I am new to Big Data Beers. How full is this meetup usually? Does 80 people + 11 on the waiting list mean is does not make sense to come when you are on the waiting list (I am) or is there usually enough space?

Hi, the space is suitable for approximately up to 80 people, that's why we limited the attendance limit. We will offer a chair and a sponsored drink only to people in the attendee list. People in the waiting list who want to come may just stand up.
