#1 Big Data Analytics with Cassandera & Spark, by Matthias Niehoff

Abstract: Apache Cassandra is a highly available, massively scalable NoSQL database. But when analyzing huge amounts of data in an efficient way you quickly reach boundaries. Apache Spark is a framework for processing data with a flexible API and up to 100 times faster than Hadoop. In this talk I will demonstrate how to integrate Cassandra into Spark and identify use-cases for combining these two.

Bio: Matthias Niehoff, … works as an IT-Consultant for the codecentric AG in Karlsruhe. He is engaged in Cassandra and the enterprise version by Datastax. Furthermore he is interested in Continuous Delivery and the Spring Framework.

#2 Big Data Trends and Challenges in the AAA-Games industry, by Georg Zöller.

Abstract: An overview of how big data and analytics have changed how globally distributed AAA-console/pc games are made, the frontiers and challenges for the industry in the age of machine learning, dominating mobile platforms and predictive analytics. With luck, he will convince a few people to take an interest in the unique problems and opportunities of our industry.

He will also gladly share his experiences and insights about living and working in tech in Singapore and North America from the point of view of a German expatriate.

Bio: Originally from Idstein, Hessen, he got infected with a lasting interest in analytics and data visualization during his first career as freelance software and database engineer in business and banking software in Germany. Today he is working as Technical / Creative Director in the video games industry and have spent the last 13 years building AAA-blockbuster games and their supporting systems for publishers at BioWare/EA and Ubisoft in Canada, the US and Singapore. https://www.linkedin.com/profile/view?id=4614147
