Title: Integrating Hadoop Within The Total Data Fabric

Speaker: Ian Fyfe, VP product marketing and product evangelist, Pentaho

Abstract: A big data store that is not integrated with the rest of your data architecture is a Big Silo. In order to get the maximum benefit out of your Hadoop installation you need raw data and aggregate data to flow between Hadoop and the other parts of your data architecture. This session will demonstrate how to integrate Hadoop with your existing data architecture using Pentaho’s graphical, Apache-licensed data integration and orchestration technology. Attendees at this session will
learn how to (without writing any code or script):

  • Read and write data into HDFS, Hive, and HBase
  • Read aggregate data from Hive and load it into a datamart for
    interactive analysis
  • Execute graphically designed data transformations in a MapReduce job
  • Orchestrate these activities with non-Hadoop activities

Speaker Bio: Ian is the product evangelist and VP product marketing at Orlando and San Francisco based Pentaho. He is a key member of the big data team at Pentaho. He brings over 20 years of experience in the business analytics software market with roles spanning consulting, product management and product marketing. Ian started his career by co-founding a business intelligence startup and has worked at Business Objects, Informix, Epiphany, Pivotal, PeopleSoft and Jaspersoft. His favorite hobbies are skiing, rock climbing, mountain climbing, and most recently kiteboarding.

Title: Quantum4D | A high bandwidth user interface to Big Data
| Interbank Payments & Political Stability Case Studies and
Systems Intelligence Synthesis

Speaker: Michael Warner, CEO & Founder, Quantum4D

Abstract: Since 2007, Quantum4D has been working with government and international organizations in the analysis of large scale systems. We will present a brief overview of our work on two projects related to big data. The first will show how an often overlooked dimension of big data – the number of vertices in a system – can be leveraged to shed insight on the topology, dynamics and behavior of actors in a system. The second example will show how to seamlessly navigate between
individual actors and super-structure aggregate behaviors.
A demonstration of how a macro statistical model of political stability will be linked to social individual scale data. The presentation will conclude with a discussion of how visual ontologies – once exposed – enable a new kind of systems thinking on big data.

Speaker Bio: Michael Warner is CEO and founder of Quantum4D, a software platform that provides users with a portal to a dynamic, evolving 3D model of the economy and markets. The basic design of the system was inspired by work done for major banks and various technology startups.
Prior to founding Quantum4D in 2001, Michael worked as an information architect and ontologist, designing internal software systems and web-based platforms that leverage the structure of information in analysis and presentation to the end user. Prior to this, he worked in financial services and security groups at Sun Microsystems. He began his career working on development projects for the World Bank/USAID and
teaching business in developing countries for Georgetown University (CIED). Warner graduated magna cum laude from Kenyon College before pursuing a master's in philosophy focused on information and systems theory at the University of Washington. He is currently a board member of the San Francisco chapter of the National Association of Business
Economists.

Title: Augmenting Enterprise Data Warehouses with Hadoop

Speaker: Sheetal Dolas, Architect, Hortonworks

Abstract: Due to exponential data growth in every corner, almost all organizations are facing a challenge to have highly scalable yet cost effective data warehouses. Organizations can scale to new levels by augmenting the Enterprise Data Warehouses (EDW) with Hadoop and can save millions of dollars on the infrastructure.

There are three key challenges in making Hadoop as mainstream EDW platform: 1. Managing historical data updates 2. DR/Active-Active warehouses 3. Integrating with existing infrastructure (Oracle, Teradata, Informatica, BI tools)

In this presentation we talk about a reference EDW architecture that helps saving millions of dollars, processes terabytes of incoming data everyday, scales to multi petabyte EDW and also the challenges people face while using Hadoop for EDW and the solutions/best practices around them.

Speaker Bio: Sheetal is currently an architect at Hortonworks. Previously, he was a Sr. Technology Architect with Extreme Data practice of Infosys’s Cloud Center Of Excellence. He has Served in key positions as Lead Big Data Architect, SOA Architect, Technology Architect in multiple large and complex enterprise programs for with multiple fortune 100 and fortune 500 companies from insurance, financial and manufacturing verticals. He brings extensive knowledge of BigData/NoSql
technologies including Hadoop, Hive, Pig, Hbase, Cassandra, MongoDB.
