Abstract:
Apache Drill continues to get significant attention as a powerful SQL-on-Hadoop technology. It gained a strong testimonial in early 2015 when the analyst firm Gigaom gave it their highest rating among SQL-on-Hadoop solutions, even before its 1.0 release. It has made tremendous progress since then, and is a solution that all big data users and implementers should consider. Not only is it an ANSI SQL engine that delivers “schema on read” on unstructured data, it also can be used to address specific security and governance issues, especially with data agility in mind. In this talk, Dale Kim and Mitesh Shah of MapR Technologies will give their perspectives on big data security and governance, and how Apache Drill can be used to address some key data management requirements, including those for regulatory compliance.
Speakers Bio:
Dale Kim is the Sr. Director of Industry Solutions at MapR. His background includes a variety of technical and management roles at information technology companies. While his experience includes work with relational databases, much of his career pertains to non-relational data in the areas of search, content management, and NoSQL. Dale holds an MBA from Santa Clara University, and a BA in Computer Science from Berkeley.
Mitesh Shah is Senior Product Manager with MapR, responsible for security and data governance strategy. Prior to MapR, Mitesh held several positions in enterprise security at organizations including the Federal Reserve and Salesforce.com. Mitesh has a degree in Computer Science from Cornell, and an MBA from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
