Hadoop Development Kits : Weave and Cloudera CDK (double session!)

Hi all

We have a great meetup lined up -- double sessions!. We have speakers from Continuuity and Cloudera. And we are giving away copies of 'Hadoop Operations (http://shop.oreilly.com/product/0636920025085.do)'

In this session, we are going to get an overview of two emerging SDKs for Hadoop.

• Terrence Yim from Continuuity will be talking about Weave (https://github.com/continuuity/weave).
• Eric Sammer from Cloudera (http://www.cloudera.com/content/cloudera/en/home.html) will be presenting Cloudera Development Kit (CDK) (https://github.com/cloudera/cdk).

Talk 1: Weave
Weave is a simple set of libraries that allow you to easily manage distributed applications through an abstraction layer built on Hadoop YARN. Weave allows you to use YARN’s distributed capabilities with a programming model that is similar to running threads.

About Terrence Yim:
Terence Yim is a Software Engineer at Continuuity, responsible for design and building realtime processing system on Hadoop/HBase. Prior to Continuuity, Terence spents over a year at LinkedIn Inc. and seven years in Yahoo!, building high performance large scale distributed system.

Talk 2 : Cloudera Development Kit (CDK): Hadoop Application Development Made Easier
Cloudera has created a new open source project called the Cloudera Development Kit (CDK), to help Hadoop developers get new projects off the ground more easily. The CDK is both a framework and long-term initiative for documenting proven development practices and providing helpful doc and APIs that will make Hadoop application development as easy as possible.

About Eric Sammer:
Eric Sammer is an Engineering Manager at Cloudera, where he is focused on highly available, efficient, distributed, and parallel data collection, analysis, and reporting back end systems. He has a solid background in software development, systems and networking, and data management systems, with a career track that spans for over 10 years. Eric is a committer on various open source projects in the Hadoop ecosystem, and the author of the book Hadoop Operations from O'Reilly.
