Data Science Madison

I've noticed a trend in people joining Big Data Madison lately - many new members mention statistics, mathematics, building models for data analysis, and using tools like R and SAS. Moreover, several have mentioned data science, the blend of statistics, mathematics, machine learning, and data visualization that helps people tell meaningful stories with their data.

Data science is closely related to big data - all the data in the world is useless without good statistical models to analyze it - so this is a great place to announce the formation of Data Science Madison.

Data Science Madison will hold meetings to discuss statistical software like R, SAS, SPSS, Mathematica, etc., and open-source languages such as Perl and Python. We'll discuss machine learning, building and testing statistical models, and using data visualizations to explain the meaning hidden in the data. Data Science Madison meetings will be a lot like Big Data Madison meetings, reviewing real-world data science applications, hearing from local users how they're applying data science techniques, and learning about vendor products and services.

Check out Data Science Madison now and join if you're interested.

Thanks!
