Big Data Scotland Event at the Turing Festival!

BigDataScotland are hosting an event as part of the Turing Festival!

Thursday 23rd August at 2pm

Lecture Theatre 3, Appleton Tower.

This event is aimed at all Big Data enthusiasts!  There will be speakers from AWS and Cloudreach, as well as a chance to chat to other enthusiasts about all things Big Data.

About the speakers:


From AWS: Ryan Shuttleworth is a Technical Evangelist at Amazon Web Services. In his role Ryan educates customers on the technical and business aspects of cloud computing, mentors start-ups and coaches developers in enterprises on their move to the cloud. Having held senior roles in successful SaaS companies, Ryan has lived and breathed the transition to cloud infrastructure and uses this know-how to help customers get the most from cloud technologies.


From Cloudreach: Tom Ray is Head of Operations at Cloudreach, overseeing the Managed Services area of the business. He was an early adopter of both Google Apps and the AWS platform in his previous role as head of IT at Melrose Resources plc, a FTSE 250 oil and gas company. Tom has 15 years’ experience working in IT management and across the shipping, logistics and oil and gas industries. Tom gained a MA(hons) Maths and Economics from Aberdeen University.

    Interesting talks putting a excellent practical big data view point on the Amazon WS functionality. Sounds like we have a good solution for the infrastructure. Would be interesting to talk about analysis and algorithms next time.
