Biotech Boot Camp 101B: Cloning and Sequencing Techniques

Details
Biotech 101 is part of our Biotech Boot Camp series. Biotechnology 101A (PCR) and 101B (Cloning & Sequencing) will teach you what you need to know to do a small biotech project of your own or introduce you to basic techniques we “lab rats” use during the day! Biotech 101B is a 3-part class that will introduce you to the fundamental biotechnology techniques of Cloning and Sequencing. Cloning and Sequencing applications include production of recombinant proteins (such as insulin), creation of genetically modified organisms (GMO, such as transgenic mice and plants), and gene therapy! In this workshop, you insert yeast DNA into E.coli using the techniques of ligation and bacterial transformation. We will subsequently submit our sample of E.coli DNA to a lab for sequencing. equence the inserted plant DNA and query the public databases to investigate which gene or DNA fragment was inserted into bacteria. No previous experience is necessary. We will teach you the required techniques and necessary background during the workshop!
Workshop includes:
Reagents for performing Ligation, Making a Library, Bacterial Transformation
Cloning and Sequencing of yeast DNA
Handouts of Presentation Slides, Key Concepts from lectures and “How To” Protocol Steps/ Lecture and lab on fundamental techniques
Introduction to Cloning and Sequencing Applications.
