Last Meetup Overview & Preview of November Meetup

At our last meetup, we had the honor of welcoming distinguished guests from the US and other parts of Canada, including Antony Di Iorio, president of the Bitcoin Alliance Canada. Additionally, Eric Spano and Alexandre Bourget introduced their respective companies, Bylls and BitCredits and many more guests shared their interests and expertise. We also hosted the very first Satoshi Square event in Montreal. Thanks to all of you who contributed, it was a great success!

This meetup will offer the regular workshops and networking opportunities, and we will also be welcoming some international surprise guests in addition to hosting a second Satoshi Square event.

(“Satoshi Squares” are local marketplaces. Participants usually trade Bitcoins for dollars, and vice-versa.)

Updates on The Embassy’s ProjectsTake part in the development of one of our enterprises in the startup incubator.
The people behind our startup incubator projects have been hard at work since the last meet up, and we have an exciting development to announce: at our November meetup, Bylls (the online bill payment service that allows you to pay your bills directly with Bitcoin) will have an area setup with a live demo of its services! Simply bring your utility bills (and Bitcoins, of course) and be amongst the first to learn about and use this great new service. There will be no fees for all meetup attendees!

The Bitcoin Store is Coming Soon! Job Opportunities Available

Lots of work is being done to renovate the first floor of the Bitcoin Embassy. This space will host the commercial area that will serve as the Bitcoin Store. We are looking for an experienced store manager to help lead the next phase of this project - follow the link below to see this and all of our other job postings.

We are in need of your help and connections to transform this Bitcoin Store into the headquarters of the Bitcoin community in Montreal. If you know of a product or service related to the Bitcoin economy, free & open source software, and new technologies that should be featured in our store, don’t hesitate to contact us.

Spreading the Word

Our team is hard at work representing the Bitcoin Embassy and providing information at related events. In the last few weeks, we took part in many local meetings compared to some of the international conferences we wrote about last month, and we are quite pleased with the collaboration and knowledge sharing that led to the creation of many new relationships.

The local events that we participated in were:

• Club Linux Atomic meetup
• Drupal Camp Montreal (Discussion panel on the Future of the open web)
• Location Tech Montréal tour - Geomatics experts and OpenStreetMap contributor

This month we will be welcoming groups in our meet up/hackerspace:

• Réseau Libre meeting (http://agendadulibre.qc.ca/event/713/) (Thursday November 7) – community with the goal to establish a Wi-Fi network (mesh) in Montreal
• OpenStreetMap Montréal (http://agendadulibre.qc.ca/event/708/) – conference evening (Tuesday, November 19)

Bitcoin Workshops We have begun offering weekly Bitcoin workshops (http://bitcoinembassy-eorg.eventbrite.ca/) twice a week, in English and French. Follow our EventBrite page (http://bitcoinembassy-eorg.eventbrite.ca/) for the schedule of the next workshops and send in your topic suggestions.
