The Bitcoin block rewards are designed so that every 210,000 blocks (roughly every four years), the rate at which the mining process produces new bitcoins is set to halve. Currently the miners earn 25 bitcoins per block. Starting block #420,000, the mining reward will become 12.5 bitcoins.
To mark this remarkable event, and to celebrate so many blocks of succesful bitcoin transactions against all odds, we are hosting The Halving Party for members of the cryptocurrency community. The entry is absolutely free, however we require that you RSVP to put yourself on the guestlist, so we know who to expect.
Since the actual block times are random, we have given up on trying to predict exactly what time the halving will take place; instead, we will start the party 25 blocks prior to block #420,000 and will continue the party well past The Halving!
