Black Skeptics Los Angeles (BSLA) is an organization dedicated to providing Humanist public education, media representation, and cultural resources for African American non-believers and their allies.

BSLA’s programming and initiatives seek to promote greater awareness and understanding of African American secular humanist, freethought, and atheist traditions, beliefs and practices in Los Angeles communities of color and beyond. Since 2010, BSLA has hosted roundtables on secular social justice, sponsored interfaith dialogues, conducted Humanist professional development trainings, and published articles on a broad range of issues pertaining to gender equity, racial justice, economic justice, and progressive education.

BSLA’s as of spring 2016 BSLA’s meet up group organizers and mission has changed.  We will now focus on the important work of creating a lexicon that better describes good with out god.  We will explore unity and collective work and responsibility with no basis in creator mythology.  We will reach out as partners exploring Atheist/Theist work that we can agree is needed for community, and work to solve community the problems together.

The purpose of the group is to provide a space for people of color to connect with other people of color who identify as skeptics, non believers, atheist, agnostic and other like-minded free thought individuals who are looking to become more actively involved with addressing the social controversies that we face in our communities.

We still have 3 types of monthly events that center around community work, intellectual discussion and just having fun and getting better.

What do we do?

1) We get healthier together:

Monthly Hike & Potluck

Let’s stay healthy and harmony.  Each month BSLA will select a local hike.  The hikes will become progressively easier for those involved and harder for those that are not consistent.  Our goal is to meet and greet enjoy good health and vibes.  We will connect as a community of equals, and explorers.  We are also open to meditation and affirmative visualization for our life’s goals and find ways of encouraging life goals without fixing anyone.  My hope is that this will become another way we can get hyped, on point or be in your best mindset possible.  Let’s help each other stay up!

2) We grow our minds together!

We will select a movie of concern or book and discuss as group.  Please feel free to join our bi-monthly Book Club to share perspectives and explore new ideas.  We will meet locations will be determined and will change likely each month.  There is no education committee we will select the book to read or video to view by voting on rationalistactionnetwork.com Selections will be visible there.

3) New steering team is forming. Join us for our monthly steering meeting for active members.

Your contribution is absolutely essential!  Be the gift that you bring and let us do this together.
