The Pour House: Discuss Calico Joe, by John Grisham

“ Hi Everyone!

Here's the suggested list of books per Shawn, the librarian in charge of the book club bags.

After the first meeting we walked across the street from the Pour House to the Library and picked up the Book Club Kit for the June meeting. Luckily, the librarian, Shawn, who is in charge of the Book Club Kits***was there and she enthusiastically suggested several good kits for the next six months. Wasn't that great, Shawn just happening to be at the desk when we got there? She really cut down on the politics of choosing books as we form our group.

Here's the list and suggested months for each book. If this isn't working, we can always change the list.

June = John Grisham's Calico Joe. (I have two copies at my house, call me if you want one, 708/288-2936. The "fun thing" in the book group bag was a copy of "Money Ball.")

July = The Girl in the Tangerine Scarf

August = Thousand Splendid Suns

September = Gone with the Wind (Shawn said there is a great cookbook in that bag and suggested we have a potluck as part of the discussion.)

October = Michael Koryta bag of mysteries. (Mr. Koryta is a local author who writes rich and haunting books --- suggest spooky enough for a spooky time of year.)

November = Memoirs. (The book kit is a bag full of different interesting memoirs, and is intended for each member to read a different memoir to share with the group.)

***A Book Club Kit is a canvas bag full of books, suggested questions, and fun stuff to do related to the book or books related to the theme of the kit. The kit is checked out to one member of the book club, who can then distribute the books.)
