[Mar] Cafe Games: Big Saturday Boardgames Day AND ... Watching the Tournaments!!

Come learn & play fun board games while socialising!

Friends welcome! Over-competitive types need not apply. The idea is light-hearted interaction over some drinks and games.

"Eat, drink and be merry!"

Join us in a relaxed cafe PUB! environment, where food and drink are in plentiful supply as we amuse ourselves with weird and wonderful games.

GOLD COIN donation appreciated - helps with costs.

VENUE: This venue can cope with more than 100 people, so space is not a problem!!

Don't expect serious hard-core strategy games, it's usually more social games like Pictionary, Cranium, Jenga, Cluedo or Trivial Pursuit, or even card games like Uno, Bang! or 500 :-)
If you've never played these games before, we're more than happy to show you how.

Yes, I expect some people will bring more strategic "Euro" games ... that's fine, there will be something for everyone.

NOTE: Because this venue doesn't have its own games, PLEASE bring along any games you can, even if it's just a deck of cards (available Coles, Safeway, Petrol stations ...etc)

Yes I will be bringing along *some* games, but this sort of event works best when everyone helps out.

A good rule of thumb is picking games that last no longer than an hour. Sure, feel free to settle down for a 5 hour game of Monopoly or Risk, but people enjoy moving around the group. If you're uncertain about a game, just bring it and see if anyone's keen.

Starts: 12 midday or whenever you roll in.
Finishes: 11pm

Pay: for food, drink as you go. (This is a restaurant, not your mate's garage, so I should not need to spell out that it's inappropriate to bring your own food and drink)

Hey guys! Thanks for today! We will definitely be back! My mate left his uno and angry birds card game there. Wonder if someone could keep them safe for us until next time?

Emma ... Charles has found your copy of Billionaire ...he's going to send it down to me, and I'll hopefully get it to you next games day. (Contact me directly if you need it sooner!)

I turned up today. After standing around for about fifteen minutes, a group of people invited me to join in with them. I spent three hours playing games with them. This was my third time coming to this group. I will be back again next month.

I really enjoyed my day at Cafe Games this month. I especially enjoyed playing the Avalon role playing game 2 times and the incan gold card game:)

Just realised that I can only be there for the afternoon; I have a friend's pseudo birthday party in the evening. Sad face. Bad timing all round; who is so inconsiderate as to have a birthday party on the same day as Cafe Games, anyway?

    February 21, 2013

    • Christopher

Is it their actual birthday on that day? They should do what I do each year and celebrate my birthday by coming to Cafe Games!

      February 22, 2013

    • Stuart

No; her next actual birthday won't be until 2016.

Can't make this one, it clashes with a work gathering, but I will be back for April, for sure.

Hope the extra room is open upstairs as it will be needed if both using the same venue at the same time, otherwise a nightmare of overcrowding waiting for a place to happen. The physical space required for that many tournaments and their associated tables makes a second large scale event impractical as proven last time this mob crashed its way into Melbourne and convened The Settlers of Catan tournament is the same space as Magic the Gathering tournament.

      Hi Sol,
(sorry I didn't reply, for some reason didn't get auto sent the notifications about messages)
I think we should be fine - there's no Magic tournament this year and that took up heaps of space.
Also the tournaments will start off big and get smaller, whereas we'll start off smaller and get bigger as they wind up.

The Celtic Club don't really want anyone to use the "extra room" which is in fact their fancy restaurant (which has a different entrance when it's open)

    Hey Chris,

I have just put myself down for Carcassonne. Do they just play the basic game or to they use the expanded bits?
