March 12th BPG Meeting

This months meeting will be a hands on mini workshop by Darcy Pino

Anyone new to photography will want to try the technique of shooting oil and water. As every single image will be different, the possibility of capturing a few beautiful shots is good.

The fact that oil and water don't mix makes every image so different from the one before, and depending on how often you wish to change the background, you can shoot away until you have a wide range of images on the theme.

It becomes rather mesmerizing after a while as you watch the slow movement of the oil globules as they glide their way over the water- what better way to relax and enjoy yourself!

What you will need

  1. Camera with lens - a macro lens works best, but it's probably not in everyone's kit bag, although for this exercise any telephoto lens that gives good zoom could be used. The closer detail you can see,the better.
  2. Tripod - Vital for stability to avoiding camera shake.
  3. A remote shutter release, or shutter release will be helpful.

Darcy did a superb job coordinating and managing everything - There was plenty of room to move around, folks were available to help each other as needed - Grand time was had by all. Darcy, Many MANY Thanks!!

Darcy, Thanks for giving us a chance to not only have a fun "hands on activity" but to get such marvelous help from both you and John. I couldn't wait to get home to play with a little post processing.

I won't be at this month's meeting, but I recall how much fun it was to photograph at Darcy's macro 'stations' before. How nice it will be to be able to spread out in the ballroom for this activity!

    Hey Pamela,
Do you have manual focus? That will really be the most important factor. Your camera sounds just fine. Bring your tripod.

All I have is a Nikon coolpix it says it is lens shift VR Wide 6x zoom 16.0 megapixels. Will that work to get any neat pictures? Will come anyway just to see your work.
