Amin Astansh: DevOps Methodologies and Tools - How Acquia handles massive scale

  • May 22, 2013 · 6:30 PM

The Acquia Cloud is an PaaS that powers many of the world's largest websites built on the open-source Drupal project.  As Acquia Cloud expanded to thousands of AWS EC2 instances, the classic tools and methods for detecting and responding to infrastructure outages within the product were unable to keep pace with the scale. This presentation describes how the Acquia Operations and Engineering teams adapted by developing ways to scale out their monitoring infrastructure, gather and aggregate instance-level metrics in parallel, and implement fixes to the platform while still meeting customer expectations in terms of response times. This will be a very interesting topic for Dev/Ops professionals who maintain a deployment of hundreds or even thousands of servers.

This was good. I think people were looking for more current tools. This said what was presented solved the problem of scale which was interesting ro hear.

Sorry. I will need to make the next one. I didn't realize my wife had a fundraising event on the same evening.

Planning to organize reoccurring hack days/events. Preferably technology agnostic to make them all inclusive.
Who is interested? Who has experience or will to learn how to make this happen?

Hi, I'm the leader of the Web Operations team at Next Jump in Kendall Square. Would love to meet others in the area who work on similar challenges.

Would like to have a discussion on how companies are onboarding new people into the DevOps mindset. How about an open discussion?

This is correct. I'm looking forward to revive activity around DevOps in Boston. We should be very clear that DevOps is not only for Devs or Ops and not all about tools or technology, but about people, teams, relationships and communication.

We have a very large space in Waltham (ConstantContact) to host events. How many people prefer Cambridge or Waltham?
