Designing the new BostonGlobe.com and Backbone.js
Hosted by Boston Front End Developers
Details
Two great talks this month that should have something for everyone:
Designing the New BostonGlobe.com (http://BostonGlobe.com/)
The Boston Globe's brand new website was built from the ground up and optimized to work on everything from an Android phone to an iPad tablet to a desktop computer. So how the heck did that happen? Go behind the scenes of the design process with Mike (@m_swartz (http://twitter.com/m_swartz)) and Tito (@t1to98 (http://twitter.com/t1to98)) from Upstatement (http://www.upstatement.com/). They'll talk about their approach, address the unique challenges of making a large-scale responsive website, and show how the design evolved from early InDesign comps into code.
Introduction to Backbone.js
Jason Morrison (@jayunit (http://twitter.com/jayunit)) from ThoughtBot (http://thoughtbot.com/) will be giving an introduction to Backbone.js, a Javascript-based client side Model-View-Controller framework that is rapidly gaining in popularity for building. Thoughtbot has been using Backbone.js extensively and has produced an e-book on called Backbone.js on Rails (http://workshops.thoughtbot.com/backbone-js-on-rails)
As usual talks will start at 7:20pm, and Drinks and Pizza will be provided beforehand by group sponsor LibertyConcepts (http://www.libertyconcepts.com/)
