Aug 17th Meetup Recap

A former member
Hi Everyone,

That last meetup was action-packed - we had a great main talk and then an amazing amount of cool stuff was demo'd:

Al showed off how quickly you can build and model in Blender and pull it into the Web in Cubic VR

For those of you not familiar with blender, it's an open source 3D modeling program available for pretty much every platform you can imagine:

Cubic VR JS is a Javascript port of the Cubic VR 3D engine at[/url]

Mocospace had Demos of their new game for people to play, the game itself is still under wraps.

We (Cykod) demo'd a Beta of Space Words, our multi-player, smart-phone controlled HTML5 Game (programmed by our intern @jameswburke )

Darius showed of the current state of BoCoup's HTML5 porting of Fieldrunners (Here's an earlier post about it) - the full demo was very impressive, and according to Darius the WebGL-based port has been going pretty well without any real snags and performance has been good.

Ryan showed off his winning entry in the CSS3 Animation contest: a spy-hunteresque game built entirely in HTML5/CSS3 without any Javascript

Caleb talked about Adobe's new HTML5 animation tool Edge (Free preview download here: ) which generates CSS3 and then uses jQuery Easing for animation.

Ayokunle showed off a Beta of their App Wanderplayer - a bookmarklet that let's you use you iPhone as a video-gamer controller for hundreds of different Games on the Web (Twitter @wanderplayer )

I'm presenting at the Javascript Meetup next week - talking about App development with Javascript (touching a little on Impact.js as a way of porting HTML5 games to a native application)

Tickets for the Bocoup-sponsored New Game Conference happening in SF in November are on sale at (Darius sent along the 15% discount code this morning)

Hope to see you all next Month! Shoot Darius or me an Email if you're interested in presenting at a future meetup.

Thanks again to MocoSpace for hosting and providing pizza and beer.
