July MongoDB Meetup

Note: we've swapped presenters

Presenters and Topics

Zardosht Kasheff, a developer at Tokutek, will show us more about TokuMX, an advanced storage engine for MongoDB. At a previous meetup, Tim Callaghan from Tokutek gave us a brief overview of their MongoDB engine, but this time we'll take a closer look.

Simeon Simeonov, Founder & CTO of Swoop, will give us insights into how they use Mongo behind the scenes for their high-performance core data processing and analytics. He'll share tips and tricks such as relationship management with zero overhead, atomic update buffering, content-addressed storage, dynamic map-reduce and rocking the Mongo shell.

Both presentations were great and useful, much better than many I have been to. Thank you.

Thanks everyone for coming to the meetup on Wednesday. I've uploaded the slides for my talk on SlideShare: http://www.slideshare.net/simeons/the-rough-guide-to-mongodb

    Hello all,

Thanks again to Andrew and 10Gen for having me last night. I enjoyed the questions and conversations.

    My slides are at http://www.tokutek.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/20130731-boston-mongodb-meetup1.pdf

My contact info is in the presentation. I'd love to hear feedback, be it on the presentation, TokuMX in general, or anything else.

Additionally, we've recently been blogging quite a bit about TokuMX at http://www.tokutek.com/tokuview/. Some may find some of the recent technical posts interesting.

Thank you Andrew, 10gen, Simeon, Zardosht, and Brightcove. I might have bitten off more than I could chew yet with Google and the notes I took I should be ready for the next meetup. Simeon and Zardosht how can we get your slideware?

I second this, any chance slides could be posted online?

I'm looking forward to seeing everyone tonight. To help me decide which topics to spend more time on, I'd love to hear back from people about (1) what is the biggest pain you are currently experiencing with Mongo and (2) what are the language environments you are using. Do it here or @simeons on Twitter.

    Thanks!

Hi Sim. On (1), a sharded database with multiple replica sets gets expensive in terms of hardware needs. On (2), Python.

    Hello all,

Looking forward to speaking this Wednesday. In the last meetup, Tim gave a brief overview of what TokuMX is and what its benefits are. I plan on re-introducing those and digging into some technical details to show how TokuMX achieves what it claims to achieve (reduced write I/O, compression, no fragmentation, etc..)

I look forward to meeting people, come with questions!
