Interactive Web Visualizations - Tableau

Ben Jones of Tableau and Tanya Cashorali of Basho will each be presenting on some of the cool features of Tableau.  Ben is in town as part of their Roadshow Tour. Examples of Ben's data visualizations may be found here:

Tableau Portfolio, and at Data Remixed

Tanya has blog on Sport's Data Viz

Please note that the front door is locked at 7 pm.  We will put a note up with a mobile# for folks to text/call, and then someone will let you in.  For transportation, please note that the South Station is nearby (a few minute walk).  There is some on-street parking near Bocoup, and towards the Seaport/ICA Museum there are paid parking lots as well as more on-street metered parking (some are free after 6; though best to check this!).

6:00 - 6:30:  Refreshments/Food, Hang-Out and Chat

6:30 - 8:00:  Presentations, Demos

8:00 - 8:10:  Break Time

8:10 - 9:00:  Hands-On!

Ben is putting together a short hands-on exercise for which the thinking is to have folks get together in small groups to explore a dataset and create data visualizations.  Tanya and him will be roaming around the room helping folks.  If you are interested in sticking around to participate then please download Tableau Public prior to the event.

Great demonstration of Tableau's drag and drop simplicity and powerful visualization feature set. Tableau's interactive user experience certain to boost engagement, dwell time and sharing. Tableau Public, pixel perfect prototyping. Sold on Tableau for data visualizations!

Thank you to Bocoup for hosting.

So glad I attended - thank you! I've used both R and Tableau and I enjoyed and learned from the walk-through, saw even more possibilities. Loved that Ben built on Tanya's R, and thank you, Ben, for going with the flow and doing Q&A instead of a cutting it off. Really informative.

Hi Louise, I'm glad the format worked well for the group - the tag team approach was a lot of fun for me & Tanya. Let me know if there are any other questions.

Nice idea of making the dataset available beforehand so we could easily follow along with the presenter. For those with Tableau 8.0 anyway. I would have preferred that the whole thing be run like a Tableau class, but obviously that would not have been ideal for everyone.

You can download it and review how it was made. Even better, improve upon it and embed it in your own website and send me a tweet to https://twitter.com/DataRemixed

    Thanks for the great hospitality,

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
