March Meetup

Join us for some good company and conversation over drinks and snacks!

As usual, it's a very informal meetup, so there aren't any talks, workshops, or anything pre-planned.

However, if you're looking for some starting points, there were a few topics suggested from the last meetup:

• How to use Twitter effectively

• Whiteboard problems - What are they? What's the purpose? Are they effective?

• "Secret Handshakes" - There seems to be some "common knowledge" amongst programmers that other programmers just assume we all know, e. g. the Fibonacci sequence, Fizz Buzz problem, etc. What are some others?

Just an fyi when you click on "map" on this page, google maps takes you somewhere really weird...that's not near the actual Thoughtbot offices!

Thanks for pointing that out! It keeps doing that on and off and it's really annoying. One way to fix it is if I specify the zip code, but there isn't a field in the form for it. :( We're between Park St and Downtown Crossing stations. Hope that helps!

Oh, that's super weird. Yup, I figured it out via google maps, but was temporarily confused after clicking on that link. Thanks Melissa!

Last month we decided we'd do some whiteboarding so we could practice in front of friends and suss out what makes it work better. Bring a favorite whiteboard problem.

It would be an interesting warm-up to whiteboard a non-technical problem first. Something like, "how do you plan a garden?", where there's something to explain but you don't have to worry about off-by-one errors or remembering a function signature.

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
