In my middle grade fantasy novel, Emerlyr, an unknown enemy has crippled the magic hiding the secret realm of the Ellouarch elves from strange and dangerous modern America. The Lords of Emerlyr proclaim that Kelvy, a half-Ellouarch boy, is one of the conspirators. Kelvy is an unruly misfit, an enchanting liar, and magical incompetent. To save the Ellouarch and prove his innocence, Kelvy ventures across a modern American landscape alive with fabled creatures, doomed fantastic races, and outlandish technology. But can Kelvy outwit regenerated demons sent by a mysterious business tycoon and sorcerer? Can he evade the science poachers who think he’s an extraterrestrial and want to sell him to a lab? Can – or should – he trust his unwanted quest companions - a dog claiming to be a prince of the fallen lycanthropic kingdom and a cursed, kleptomaniac gargoyle? And if Kelvy solves the mystery of Emerlyr’s magic, can he save the Ellouarch even though they have condemned him?
I write novels and short stories in a variety of genres and sub-genres, including elf punk, occult science fiction, "musket punk" (my own genre), fantasy intellectual thriller, and traditional science fiction.
