Wayfair & Google Project Tango

Come see Wayfair and Google show the future of online shopping. Mike Festa will present Wayfair Next, his new team for 3D scanning, VR and AR. David Scannell will have the latest on Google Project Tango.

Furniture and home décor is one of the last remaining categories with a strong brick and mortar presence. Wayfair Next aims to accelerate the shift to buying online by drastically improving the visualization of our products. We are researching novel 3D scanning techniques to digitize our vast catalog. We will be showing two demos: a VR demo using the HTC Vive and an AR demo on the Google Tango. Wayfair is one of the fastest growing tech companies in Boston and we have a lot of openings for exciting careers.

Hi thanks for sharing the unity project, it would be great also if you can share the matter port 3d model, for people that didn't migrated to unity ;-) !

      1 · January 28, 2016

    • Julian B.

I have just reviewed the license agreement for matter port, and it seems really restrictive ...

Can we enable Telepresence? If allowed, could someone stream from Periscope or the likes?

    2 · January 26, 2016

    • Jeff B.

Recording is allowed and encouraged! There's free Wi-Fi so if someone wants to volunteer to Periscope that would be greatly appreciated. Would also really appreciate someone recording it so we can put it on our youtube channel. Please let people know on Twitter @BostonVRMeetup. Thanks!

Thank you, one and all, for coming last night to our largest, ever meetup! Mega thanks to Wayfair for sponsoring all of it.

And thanks to all the exhibitors who showed up and brought the number of demos to 10, which is almost a record, as well.

I am so excited that my RSVP was changed to "yes" from the wait list. However, I am worried because I do not remember putting my last name in... Is there any way to see/edit the name on my RSVP without changing my RSVP status? Thank you!

    1 · January 25, 2016

  • Paul U.

    Hello,
I was on the wait list as of several weeks ago. How do I determine whether or not I was taken off the wait list and put on the actual guest list?

    P.S. I have a SUB-PAC that I'd love to share with everybody

    -Paul

    January 25, 2016

    • Paul U.

Oh yeah, I'm listed under the "Going" list thank you for clarifying! I'll definitely bring the SUB-PAC.

      January 25, 2016

    • Paul U.

I also have a full body Perception Neuron rig though I haven't set it up yet. If somebody could help me I would bring that as well.

Are there any volunteers willing to record the presentations & demos?

    January 14, 2016

    • Natalie G

      I don't mind recording!

      January 22, 2016

    • Naoshad E.

Great - I won't be able to make it for this event and would definitely like to view the recording - Please keep us posted on that. Thanks.

Do I need to add my last name to this meetup group? I know my ID will be checked if I attend events, will just having my first name visible here be okay?

    January 18, 2016

    • Jeff B.

You don't need to use your last name as your meetup.com user name if you don't want to. However when you RSVP for each event you'll get a pop-up that prompts you to enter your full name. This will only be shared with the security desk at the venue as our guest list. Welcome to the group!

      January 18, 2016

    • Katrina C.

      Thank you!

      January 18, 2016

  • Les N.

Waitlisted, hoping to get in. :)

    January 18, 2016

    • Jeffrey J.

your odds are decent. We generally have a lot of dropouts in the run-up to the event.

      January 18, 2016

    • Les N.

Great, I will keep checking the status.

      January 18, 2016

  • Jiayu L.

Could I still go even if I'm on the waiting list?

    January 17, 2016

    • Jeff B.

Sorry no. We've added as much capacity as we can but unfortunately we cannot add any more. Hopefully people will update their RSVP's as we get closer and you'll get in. If not stay tuned to @BostonVRMeetup on twitter and to our linkedin and google groups; we'll announce the Feb 24th meetup there before we announce it via meetup.

Will the Vive Pre be there?

    January 15, 2016

    • Jeff B.

There will probably be two Vive's (VDK1's). The Pre is a maybe.

      January 16, 2016

  • Joe R.

I would like to demo Cimagine app- where do I sign up?

    January 15, 2016

    • Jeff B.

      I'll follow up via PM.

      January 16, 2016

  • Jeffrey J.

We rented the Havana room, thanks to the generosity of Wayfair! Everybody on the wait list should have received a notice that they are now RSVP'ed.

That leaves us with only 8 slots left, and still two weeks to go!

    1 · January 14, 2016

    • Nick L.

So pumped I was able to get in off the wait list, thank you Wayfair!

      2 · January 14, 2016

  • Jeffrey J.

Because of the extra room, we have even more and better space for demos. If you want to bring or show anything, please let us know!
