Databases in the Cloud

It's not just about servers and compute resources. It's about Data, and Databases.

The cloud supports SQL databases (Amazon RDS, Google Cloud SQL, ...), NoSQL databases (MongoHQ, Cloudant, GrapheneDB, ...) and special purpose database hosted solutions (Google DataStore)

The Trove project is the OpenStack Database-as-a-Service, and allows users to dramatically simplify and speed-up the provisioning, management, and administration of a variety of relational and non-relational database technologies. The presentation by Amrith Kumar will provide an overview of OpenStack and an in-depth look at Trove. This will include case studies from firms like eBay and HP along with detailed use-cases for Trove in a variety of public, private and hybrid cloud environments.

Amrith Kumar is the CTO of Tesora, the company focused on the OpenStack Trove project. The Tesora DBaaS Platform is based on Trove, and includes several additional features and functions ideally suited for enterprise users. He is an active technical contributor to the Trove project, and a member of the core development team.

Raj Singh has a talk titled Cloudant in a nutshell. He will provide an overview of Cloudant's cloud database-as-a-service, emphasizing unique features such as Lucene search, replication from a local CouchDB instance, and Geo.

Raj is excited to be a recent member of Cloudant, helping developers get the most out of the system. He worked in the geospatial industry managing multi-company R&D projects focused on spatial data interoperability challenges.
