Vincent Carey - Co-Founder of Bioconductor Project

Details
For our June meeting, we'll have a presentation from Vincent Carey. Vincent Carey is an Associate Professor of Medicine (Biostatistics) at Harvard Medical School and is a co-founder and core member of bioconductor.org (http://bioconductor.org/). We'll also have John Muller for our opening talk this month, talking about Time Series in R. As per usual, our opening talk is aimed at new users and teaching more introductory concepts in R.
All levels are welcome and are encouraged to attend. Bring your questions!

Title: Exploring genetics of gene expression with R/Bioconductor
Joint analysis of 8-10 million SNP genotypes with variable call quality/certainties and 10000-50000 transcript abundance measures culminates in hundreds of billions of tests that will be used to help understand regulation of gene expression. How can such surveys be conducted and interpreted in a relatively compact computing context? The GGtools package assembles resources from Biobase, snpStats, ff, multicore, IRanges, and rtracklayer to support this endeavor. I will discuss the design and performance of these tools, starting from the objective of reproducing some findings published at http://www.plosbiology.org/article/info:doi%2F10.1371%2Fjournal.pbio.1000480
