Lightning talk meeting to start 2013 off with a Bang

We are starting 2013 off with a night of lightning talks.

We are looking for volunteers to come and give us a short (roughly 5 minutes) talk on the cool new R things you are working on.
We already have 4 volunteers (Parallel R, Shiny and more)
but we need more, so please come tell us about your work.
Our goal is to have at least 8 volunteers.

We also want to hear from you folks who don't know a lot about R but think you have an idea or an application that would be a good fit for R and want some feedback from R experts.
We'll call this the "Can R help with this?" part of the night and we want around 8 volunteers to give a very brief (2 minutes) description of your problem/application/idea.

To volunteer for either type of presentation please use the thread on the meetup website http://www.meetup.com/Boston-useR/messages/boards/thread/30289412

Our last lightning talk night was a great success with many fascinating presentations, so please think about volunteering and definitely plan on coming.

Thanks to HackReduce for hosting us. We think there is a lot of potential synergy between their mission and our group. Check them out at http://www.hackreduce.org/

Hope to see you there,
John, Josh & Vipin

Very good, interesting topics. I would not have minded if the talks had been longer with more live demo. Please do a longer talk on Shiny.

Ineresting talks, good presentation material, lively audience. Can we have the presentation slides in pdf or ppt ? Or at least the titles and names of the presenters ?

Looking forward to seeing you all tonight.

As you would expect, the easiest way to get to HackReduce
is to take the T to Kendall.
It's a short walk from the Kendall T down Third street.

If you drive, there are some meters on Third
and on some of the nearby streets like Rogers.
I've also had luck on Mass Ave near Kendall.

Looking forward to seeing everyone on Tuesday. So far we have about 6 topics for lightning talks
and we can easily handle 10 so if you
have something cool you are working on please
    come share it with us.

And if you have a "Can R help with this?" question
please come and ask the group.

If you plan to speak please do post a brief comment
on your topic on the discussion thread

We are close to the capacity of 120 so for those of you
who RSVP'd YES please update if you have a change in plans.

May I ask all of you who want to volunteer to do a
talk of either kind at the meeting next week to
post your proposal on the thread here

    www.meetup.com/Boston-useR/messages/boards/thread/[masked]

That will help us keep track of how many talks we can expect.

Thank you and looking forward to seeing you all next week.
