Trumpapalooza VII (Bridge, Spades, Hearts and more!)

Today is an 'open' event. Although we'll be focusing on trick-taking games, all games are welcome.

Hey everyone... it's time for another Trumpapalooza! We'll be celebrating the wonderful world of trick-taking games. From Briscola to Bridge, we'll be doing it all today! Join us for some yummy food and a few cold drinks at Not Your Average Joe's in Medford for some fun with some great people. Laurel has graciously offered to host today's event.

Our featured game:

9-5-2 (warning:PDF file) is a Canadian game adapted from the card game Sargeant Major.  This is a three player trick-taking game with elements from Bridge, Spades, Hearts and Briscola.  We think you will like this game as it is easy to play, and it is a new spin on some of the other games we play. Sarah says it could become a new C&C favorite!

Of course, we'll probably see some of the following card games today:

Bridge * Hearts * Spades * Briscola  * Euchre * 500 * Pinochle

Here's a list of trick-taking games... choose your favorite!

  • HTML instructions for 9-5-2 can be found here.

This location is easily accessible from Rt. 16, Rt. 28 and Rt. 93, and is walking distance from the T, near the new Station Landing apartment complex. Here is a map of the area.

By Subway: Take the Orange Line to Wellington. Walk over the skybridge and cross through the parking lot. Upon exiting the garage, you'll see a building complex (SL75) across the street. Cross the street and take a right. Follow around this building and you'll find Not Your Average Joe's on the opposite side of the street.

By Car: If you are driving, be aware that Station Landing is at the intersection of Rt. 16 and Rt. 28, and you can enter the Station Landing complex from the north-bound side of Rt. 28, or the east-bound side of Rt. 16. There are a number of stores in the Station Landing complex -- look for the Margarita's, Starbucks or Not Your Average Joe's signs. NYAJ is located right off of Rte. 28. Although there is free parking all around the building, we recommend that C&C members park in the garage underneath the restaurant.

I had a great time and learned Cancelation Hearts. Great group of folks to laugh with me as I threw down the Ace of Spades ...OPPS! I didn't mean to do that.

By far, it was a marathon, for me! I had a great day, though I was not the winner.
Thanks to all who made the day a success!

I had lots of fun and i almost won until the very end. The people were great. My only trouble was i almost didn't find the place and ended up in Boston.

A great day of cancellation hearts, although evil RHO kept passing me both queens and/or the A/K of spades and/or the A/K of hearts! I'm still muttering about coming so extremely close to shooting the moon - sunk by the lead of A of hearts when the only heart I held was the A.

Beware of those who make outlandish, virtually unmakeable bids (such as Rakesh's bid to win 13 tricks on the final hand of an Oh Hell! game).

Only stayed for the first shift, but it was a typical C&C Classic event :)

My thanks to all who attended. What a wild day! Hopefully those children/innocents within "ear-shot" of the late afternoon-evening cancellation (or whatever it was called) hearts game were not permanently damaged by the group's rather loud, raunchy rhetoric. Thankfully, no lives were lost.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
