This event is over a month away (update: Now less than a week! ;)), but I wanted everyone to save the date because this promises to be a fantastic performance in a very cool setting. Everything Helios Early Opera has done so far has been fantastic imo and if you haven't seen them yet, I hope you can make it out for this!

tickets can be purchased here:

We will have seats reserved for us - please look for the meetup signs!

I loved the first 2 acts, but the music got too repetitive( as often is the case with Early Music).
The singers were very talented and good actors. However, the libretto or translation was a little too silly and tried to be"too hip" with "over the top" contemporary language.

Does anyone know if I can get tickets at the door?

I would imagine they are selling at the door, but don't see anything on their website that says for certain. I know that tickets for general seating were still available as of last night. Hope you can make it!

Hi, new to this group. Where do I get a ticket for this?

Oh, man. I was definitely going to sign up, and then I saw this: "Director Aria Umezawa is setting the show in modern Hollywood." Now I'm not so sure. Think it'll still be worth seeing?

Hm, I didn't realize that either. Well, I will keep an open mind about it. I've seen Shakespeare that was "updated" and semi modernized in set and costume; also more recently Handel's "Agrippina" which had a surreal modern set. Both were wonderful. I also saw a desultory "Magic Flute" years ago which also had a weirdly modern set that didn't impress me. So in my experience it could go either way. I'm inclined to give it a chance.

Rebecca, I definitely understand your concern, as I share it any time things are modernized, but everything Helios has done so far has been terrific and I expect that to be the case here as well. *fingers crossed*

Also, their sets have been minimalist so far (budget, presumably) so that might limit how garish it could get. :) they've had many modern touches in all their performances so far, but I found them to be tastefully done. *shrug* regardless, you can be sure the music will be unscathed and sublime!

I know some Helios admins and musicians are part of the group - maybe they can shed some more light/reassure us when I announce the meetup. :) I hope you decide to come!
