The Art and Craft of Big Data Analytics

"Big Data" can be used to prevent fraud of fine art. It can be used to detect anomalies in aircraft engines. That is all super cool but how does that relate to your business? Your opportunities may not feel as world-changing as the genome project. However, innovation is critical to your business and you don't want to miss out on something that could have significant impact on revenue only because the practical application of this new technology is not entirely obvious.

Consider this interesting bit of trivia… There are five and only five categories of analytics. Therefore, the similarities between art, aircraft engines, and the your genetic sequence are closer than you think to customer loyalty, price optimization, and traffic monitoring.

In this meet-up we will define and illustrate the five major sections of analytics and big data. We’ll describe use cases (examples) that demonstrate how this new analytics functionality can be applied to derive insights. We’ll then take a deep dive into an interesting use case that resonates with the audience, and expose what really happens at the developer level, and what is required to make these new “models” work. We’ll cover technologies such as R, SQL, Mahout, etc., and will detail how to operationalize a big-data analytics model.

Enjoyed it. Particularly liked the big picture view of analytics. ... One question: Is there any chance of getting a soft copy of the presentation? Could someone post it? ...

For anyone that's on the market, I have a client in downtown Denver that's looking for Sr. Architects with a broad understanding of IT planning, architecting, engineering, development and operations across “Big Data” and traditional DW/BI environments. Experience with Hadoop, Hive, HBase, Impala, Oozie, ZooKeeper, Mahout, Flume, Cassandra, MongoDB, Greenplum, etc. and associated ecosystems would all be desired. Shoot me an email if you fit the bill.
Looking forward to meeting some of you tonight!

I'm trying to sell a 2-day pass for the O'Reilly Strata Conference in New York. It's worth about $1000, but I'm willing to sell it for the best offer I get. Please email me if interested. Thanks!
