  • This location is shown only to members

If you want to learn Ruby on Rails, this is the place!

Friday, Feb 1st, 6:00-9pm (REQUIRED): software install fest
Saturday Feb 2nd: 9:30am-4pm: workshop

4:30pm: after-party for volunteers & attendees, location TBA

This workshop is intended to reach out to women who are new to Ruby and Rails. Men are welcome to come: please find the woman in your life who wants to learn Ruby and Rails and she can sign up and bring you as her guest. When registering, guys, you will be asked who you are coming as a guest of please be sure to fill out this question.

Total programming novices, system administrators, developers in other languages, and folks who attended our previous workshops and need a refresher are all welcome. We'll have different groups separated by experience level. Each participant needs to bring his or her own laptop to work on.

The workshop is FREE of charge!

In this workshop, we'll take you through building a complete web application using Ruby on Rails. By the end of the workshop, you'll have an application on the internet that connects to a database and reads and writes information.

We'll meet up Install Fest day to install all of the software you need, and then spend workshop day learning and writing code. You must attend the Install Fest on Friday so we can all get working on our Rails project first thing Saturday.

When you RSVP you'll be asked a few question about your laptop operating system, level and type of programming experience, and whether you will be bringing any children. If possible we prefer to find other arrangements but let us know in the questionnaire if you need to bring children and we'll sort something out.

Snacks will be provided Friday evening and lunch will be provided on Saturday.
If you have questions or ideas for us, the best way to get in touch is to send an email to [masked]

Parking info:

There is free street parking directly in front of the building that may be available, and failing that there are two all-day paid lots directly to the south and west of the building. Metered parking down the street is limited to 2 hours. Alternatively, the Union Station light rail stop and mall shuttle are about an 8 minute walk away.

Thanks to everyone who made this possible. It was amazing. It was my first time attending and definitely plan to attend again. I highly recommend this for those wanting to learn Ruby on Rails. Very organized, well thought out and staffed by some of the best, most knowledgable RoR people in the area.

Hey All, just a reminder that tomorrow night (Friday) we start with the install fest. If you've determined that you can not make it this weekend, please change your RSVP so that a wait-list person can attend.

We will have some USB thumb drives available tomorrow with the software installers. However, if you want to download things before hand, please visit http://railsinstaller.org/ and click "Download the KIT".

See you all tomorrow night, let's have some fun!

We currently have 9 scheduled TA's. Jason, John, Sheehan, Cory, Sara, Nick, Matt, Shannon, Dan and myself. This workshop is on a smaller scale due to space restrictions so I think we are good on TA's but thank you so much Michelle and if things change I will definitely reach out to you!
