As our everyday devices become more powerful, speaking to machines and receiving verbal responses is becoming commonplace. Windows Phone 8 opens up the speech capabilities of the operating system to developers and allows users to not only open an app, but give it commands to perform actions. Once the app is open, it can accept additional commands and data via voice while prompting the user in a synthesized voice. In this talk, we will look at the three of the Speech APIs included in Windows Phone 8 - Text-to-Speech, Voice Commands, and Speech Recognition.
