On Saturday we will be doing the famous lollipop loop that starts at the Hessie Trailhead and includes Devils Thumb, High Lonesome, and King Lake. This is one of the best runs in the Indian Peaks Wilderness Area and is the run that got me hooked on mountain running.

The run is around 15.5 miles, has 3500 ft of gain, and will take us around 4.5 – 5 hours to complete. Two of the miles are running at the top of the continental divide.

Do to the limited parking at Hessie, we will want to be diligent in our carpooling. We will be carpooling from the Boulder Justice Center parking lot at the southeast corner of 6th & Canyon in Boulder at 6:00a. At Hessie, we will park on the Fourth of July road, and run into the Hessie Trailhead.

Beginners are welcome; however this trail is quite remote so coordinating a sub-group would be recommended. The advanced group will be doing the loop in a counter-clockwise direction, so the beginner group could start up the loop in a clockwise direction and turn around at a particular spot for an out/back.

Dogs are allowed; however a leash may be required.
