During the Meetup a nice woman in the back asked about supporting older OS's when launching an app. I spoke up and said, Apple says newest only. I just saw this blog article and thought I would add it here.

As a counterpoint, here's Instapaper stats from November 30th showing almost 50% iOS5 adoption - meaning it would be a good idea to support iOS4 a bit longer yet:

I do think that with the over the air updates people will be grading much faster after iOS5 is widespread. I think in about a year or so I really would support only the latest version of iOS.

CalderaStudios routinely releases builds to the store that support at least the last two, if not older iOS flavors. Our stats look about the same as the link you provided. It's not that much work to do, Apple doesn't mind AND you gobble up 100% of the users that can't update. It's a huge advantage if you have a serious competitor that's only releasing on the latest iOS.
